Stephon Johnson is a staff writer for the prestigious New York Amsterdam News where he covers politics, education and labor issues. He’s written about sports, music and video games for The Athletic, The Sports Fan Journal, The Hardball Times, The Classical, The Cauldron/Sports Illustrated, Baeble Music and Polygon.
Johnson’s hosted or co-hosted a number of panel discussions including the Newsmakers series at the City University of New York’s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism with NY1’s Errol Louis. He's also made multiple appearances on Louis’ “Inside City Hall” television program. Johnson's been a CUNY Census Reporting Fellow, a CUNY Political Reporting Fellow and a National Press Foundation Statehouse Fellow.
Johnson’s won awards for his work via the New York Association of Black Journalists in “Community and Public Affairs” reporting, an Ippies award for “Best Investigate In-Depth Story” and an A. Philip Randolph Messenger Award for his writing about Wal-Mart's attempts to infiltrate the NYC market.
